Running tour of North Carolina (part 1) – Greensboro

Greensboro North Carolina
Bur Mill park & Atlantic-Yadkin greenway – Greensboro NC

It’s finally here – medical residency interview season! As my husband racks up the frequent flyer miles interviewing for family medicine programs around the US, I’m only joining him for a few of them. This week it’s all about North Carolina – 5 cities in 7 days. I’ve planned out wonderful trail runs for every destination…. because A) my marathon is less than two weeks away and B) I judge locations based on the running routes.

First stop was Greensboro, North Carolina. Although by midday it’s still warm there – at 7:30 am it was a chilly 45*F with frost on the grass. However, the sites were absolutely beautiful. Greensboro as a whole has more than 90 miles of trails and greenways = one happy runner. My morning 5 mile run started at Bur Mill park‘s “Big Loop Trail”  then incorporated some of the Atlantic-Yadkin Greenway. I had the Bur Mill trail completely to myself which was a bit spooky since it’s secluded in the woods. If we move there I’ll probably make sure to take our dog, Busu with me. The trail takes you by the water and provides chirping birds for a soundtrack. Intersecting at the half-way point is the end of the Atlantic-Yadkin Greenway (paved path). The greenway had much more people on it but involves crossing car traffic at a few points. All in all it made for a great run!
